Resilience Ain’t Sexy, Man
“There comes a moment when my heart must stand alone
On this lonely path I've chosen
Like a house that's not a home
Sometimes when I feel I've had enough
And I feel like giving up”
- I Believe lyrics
Life demands resilience from us all. Whether your call has come or it has yet to occur, life will inevitably give you an opportunity to pull strength out of yourself that you never thought possible, from places inside you have yet to visit.
With resilience, comes darkness and the challenge to handle it. Darkness offers the question of whether you’re ready, willing and capable of handling it.
It comes in the times the world feels cold and unwelcoming. Everything familiar suddenly bathed in a feeling of unfamiliarity, the alien land between who you once were and who you’re becoming. We have all been there and will go through it again. It’s the newness of transition, of challenging yourself to become more, to grow through pain and discomfort in order to find strength and enlightenment on the other side. It’s the creative birth of a new you. This is the place motivation doesn’t visit. It calls you to draw from your deepest reserves of fortitude and perseverance. It tears all facades away and leaves you staring vulnerably at one thing only: Your Self.
When you feel like giving up on what you care about most, when the world tells you it’s not worth chasing, or you’re not good enough to get it, the only foundation you’re left standing on is the one you’ve built yourself.
Even surrounded by support — and no, we aren’t meant to walk this road this alone — you are the only one who is responsible for your journey, for having your own back 100% of the time. You’re everything. Nobody else can haul you up from your darkest point, nobody else has that power over you. It’s time to face the entire richness of your life experience, own where you’re at, and step into the power you have to grow yourself and direct your life through every dark valley.
Resilience.
It’s messy as fuck.
It’s dark and dirty work.
But we all need it.
It’s mandatory for a world that needs to pull itself out of the wo-is-me victimization habit, the downward spiral of useless hurting at the hands of 'uncontrollable circumstances.
We are never going to be able to control what happens to us, but we can always control how strong we grow in the face of it. This is our power and, in that light, we have infinitely more power inside of us than the world will ever allow us to believe if we are constantly looking for those answers outside of ourselves.
Prove to yourself every single day that you are powerful enough to change, capable enough to endure, consistent enough to achieve and determined enough to withstand every storm you face on the way to your ultimate destination.
The world is getting weirder by the day. More confusing, less politically stable and increasingly centred around superficial ideals that don’t actually matter when you’re lying on your deathbed. What does matter is a brilliantly lived life.
Unfortunately, fear sells, resilience doesn’t. A weak crowd is easily controllable and manipulated. Resilience is a learned skill that so few take the time to build. In this world, that’s all you need to set yourself apart.
We need more questions, fewer misleading answers. More free thinkers willing to pull themselves out of what’s normal to realize what a gift life is. To realize what an incredible gift pain is if it’s embraced. What do you rely on when the world pulls everything that’s familiar away?
You. You rely on you.
Build what matters.
