5 Ways to Spark Creativity

You could say to change your life, you need to first change your thinking. The truth is, to change your thinking, sometimes you have to change your life.

Switching up your physical location and environment is one of the most powerful catalysts for creativity. This is what makes travel such an important learning experience; it broadens the mind’s perspective like nothing else can.

I spent the better part of last week driving into the Kootenay’s in BC. I took with me a single intention, to spark creativity through creating change in order to laser focus on a single project.

Routine, while a powerful tool when it comes to building consistency, can also become suffocating. Stifling. It puts a cap on creativity instead of allowing it to flow. I propose that a healthy combination of routine and change is best. Creating change while maintaining consistency in the actions that will eventually carry you to your goals allows new energy to replace what’s old, stagnant, and no longer serves you.

The Resilience Method© was always supposed to take book form. Hidden away in a motel room with minimal distraction, I finally made this a tangible reality. Protecting your focus will move mountains and its okay to shut the world out for awhile to make sure this happens.

I’ve spoken a few times about changing surroundings in order to spark creativity. It’s a simple concept and one that’s easily implemented on a small scale on short notice. It’s a variable you can control, even when your freedom is limited due to circumstance.

It’s an idea that centres around one simple thought: Do things differently to get different results.

If you don’t change anything in your life, nothing in your life is going to change. When you take this concept and put it into the context of healing, whether that’s emotional or physical, I believe it stimulates an even deeper sense of empowerment.

Your belief in your own resilience, and your ability to recover and bounce back from challenge, is reflected in the actions you take. The actions you take also impact the belief you have in yourself. Action cures fear. In order to grow and flourish, keep moving forward. In the context of creating change, the action you take changes your scenery and breathes new life into your experience.

As your environment effects your wellbeing and dances with your subconscious, it constantly flirts with your successes and failures and beliefs. You come full circle.

Believe you can get through the next step, or next obstacle, and start moving even if you feel uncertain. Gain momentum and, in doing so, grow your belief in your own strength and ability to handle the next big thing.

It all starts with the decision to change.

5 WAYS TO SHAKE THINGS UP

CHANGE YOUR LOCATION

When you can, change your physical location. I know this isn’t possible for everyone all the time. You can travel far, travel locally, or just park yourself at the coffee shop down the road. Spark that new perspective with a change of scenery.

CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Environment dictates so much of our behaviour so changing it up will not only keep it fresh but make sure that your surroundings are constantly working in your favour instead of against you. Bring in a solution, modify what you have, swap things around, or purge some stuff.

CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE

The structure of routine is priceless in some situations, catastrophic in others. The patterns you play out day to day are meant to take a load off your mind and ensure you are heading in the direction you want with minimal effort. It builds great habits. But if your routine is starting to exhaust you, or you’re beginning to feel controlled by it, then it’s time to take back that power and change at least part of it.

CHANGE YOUR MISSION

Goals are similar to routine; if they light you up and ignite your motivation, then you’re on the right track. However, sometimes we hold on to our vision for the future out of habit or a fear of letting go. Sometimes it’s wrapped up in identity and the thought of releasing it sounds scary or uncomfortable. Instead of pushing away feelings you don’t want, strive to bring in feelings you do. Ask yourself what you honestly want for your future.

CHANGE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

While I don’t agree with the cutthroat approach,, I do believe that some people add energy to your life, others take it away. Spend more time with people who give you joy and make you feel alive while supporting you along the way.

Which one of these resonates with you? Do you feel stuck in any area of your life right now?

Keep showing up and doing your best. Life is meant to be lived messy and vibrantly, without apologizing for being the awesome human you are.
